This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 18 energetic pre-kindergarteners are eager and curious students who thoroughly enjoy learning about their immediate surroundings through hands-on art and science experiments. My aim for my ecstatic little humans is for them to become diverse thinkers and learners who get to participate in daily open-ended explorations in a supportive learning environment.

By providing engaging activities based on the New York Pre-K for All Light and Water unit of studies, my students will be able to observe objects and phenomena in their environment with increasing complexity.

In order to support their curiosity, various materials are necessary to allow them to be active participants in their own learning.

My Project

During our light and water units, my young students will engage in various scientific research activities that will enable them to develop ideas, infer and predict outcomes. They will be able to identify and note that there are many types of light sources and engage in in-depth water explorations by discovering the many ways water can be used and how it affects the planet Earth. My students will be able to develop an understanding of what water is, how items can float or sink in water, and note how all living things need water. They will also discover many types of lights in their homes, identify UV light and use florescent reactive materials throughout various learning centers.

They will engage in daily sensory integration art, measurement and science experiments using bubbles,insta-snow, water beads in the water table, as well as use florescent paint, pastel chalks, watercolors and glow sticks to learn about ultraviolet​ lights while gaining an understanding of light concepts and various light sources.

The requested supplies will aid us in transforming our block center into a rainforest using artificial Ivy Vines Leaf Garland Plants, Metallic Tinsel Foil Fringe Curtains to aid them in understanding the importance of water in a rainforest. The fluorescent paint, blacklight, astronaut dress-up costumes, Night Light Projector, and the Space Capsule Window Wall Stickers will be used to enhance their daily exploration in our science and discovery learning center.
