Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title 1 school located in a diverse low-income community. Our students receive free breakfast and lunch daily, along with free after-school care. Over 70% of our population speak English as a second language. Many of my students come from families that have little exposure to books and modern technology. My students are a bright bunch with huge hearts and come to school each day to learn as much as they can.

My Project

I am a new teacher and a classroom library will benefit my kindergarten class throughout the year. Reading is one of the most important skills a child can learn. When a student is given a chance to pick out a book they want to read, they begin their journey of growing their love of reading!

It is my goal to ensure my students develop a love for reading and become lifelong readers.

Students will then be encouraged to read other books at their level and become strong independent readers. I would love to have a collection of kindergarten and first-grade level books.
