My students need hands-on experiences in math. My district purchased a new math program aligned to common core. While they are excelling in the new program, my students will need manipulatives to have this hands-on experience.
My students attend a low income based school district.
My students need all the hands-on experiences here at school as they may not experience this at home. STEM education is very important in today's world. These manipulatives will help us become better 21st century learners. My district purchased the books for the new math program, but could not purchase the manipulatives in order for my students fully immerse themselves in the math program. My students need the hands-on experience in order to visually understand. They need to be able to physically move objects to see the concept at hand. The ten frames, rainbow fraction tiles, place value pocket chart and unit cubes will not only be used for achievement this year, but also for my students in the future.
All of these resources will be used on a daily basis. By using these manipulatives, students will be able to have a solid foundation for skills that could be used in real world situations. These materials will be used in whole class activities and small group activities. In the whole group activities, the manipulatives will be used for modeling to the whole class. They will be used to show whole and and parts of numbers, place value and skip counting. After whole group modeling, students will be able to use them in small group activities. In the small group activities, students will work together to complete activities. They will work as a team using these manipulatives to reinforce daily math skills. This will help strengthen these foundational math skills, so students can use them now and in the future.
These donations will enforce skills being taught in the daily math class.
These manipulatives will change my students lives because my students' may not have resources at home that could reinforce the skills being taught daily. The skills that the students learn now are the lifelong skills that they will need to build upon and use in the future.
