This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My amazing, special class of 20 Life Skills students in grades 3-5 have a wide range of of individual learning needs. Several of our students are also nonspeaking and learning to communicate using pictures. We have an excellent curriculum and a dedicated team who are always finding and creating individualized resources, but having the ability to print these learning materials in color would greatly benefit the students. Best practice is for students to have resources in colored ink.

My goal for this project is to have access to a colored printer in our classroom so we can easily make customized, accessible materials for the students.

My classroom is positive environment which is organized and functions to meet the needs of our students with disabilities. However, we truly believe that a disability is not an inability and we work towards being as independent as possible. My students LOVE school and learning. We celebrate their accomplishments, no matter how big or small. They are constantly making small steps towards their individual goals whether its learning to spell and write their name, wash their hands, identifying letters and words, answering questions about stories, counting money, identifying safety signs, etc. We make due with what we have, but my students deserve the best. We would be so grateful for any help towards purchasing a colored printer so we can continue to communicate and learn using more engaging materials.
