Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach children that are severe and profound. We learn through different multi-sensory modalities. Our motto is, if you go home clean, then you didn't learn. After all, how can you be a rockstar if at the end of the day you don't look the part! My student work on functional skills and are learning to explore their environment. The tower play set, pound a ball, puzzles, Balance Stepping Stones and other materials I have chosen will add to our newly created space. We take for granted the little things in life and creating this space has met the sensory needs of our students. Having the ability to add more sensory items is a dream come true.

Students are most engaged when their lessons included textures, colors and smells.

This year we worked on creating a sensory corner where students can manipulate different types of textures, sequence, and mirror play. This sensory corner has been used to help with fine motor skills, speech goals and create a calming place for our students. Adding additional items gives students a library of items to choose from. The items chosen are precisely chosen to help expand sensory modalities and options.
