Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Seeing my kids push to achieve the impossible, from eating with a fork or just learning to eat, holding a marker, turn-taking, brushing teeth, combing hair, and getting dressed. These life skills we all take for granted every day are the skills we work on. We incorporate chores in the class such as, setting the table, preparing snacks and through trash. Allowing our students to be part of preparing our snacks or lunch is a huge deal.

Consistency, practice, dedication, and teamwork.

Working together with Speech-Language Therapists, Occupational and Physical therapists, and a vision teacher, we have created a great class that fosters learning in every aspect.

My Project

This year we will be focusing on careers within our community, circle time activities and beginning reading skills, with my students that have learned their letters and sounds. The items purchase will cross over into large activities to small lesson that will be goal focused. This materials will enhance the learning experience of my students. Every year we focus on different themes and gather great work from the kids. This year we would like to keep their work and create a portfolio to share with parents.

Our goal is to expose our students to community careers, have community members come to our class and take our students on field trips highlighting the careers taught.

Our community lessons will be held during circle time, where we will utilize stories, songs and physical activities that support careers in our community. With this purchase I have included some beginning reading materials that I would like to utilize with my students that have mastered letter recognition and sounds. My goal is to expose them to reading and set the the tone to the function of letters and sounds.
