My Project

Dear Friends of Our Community:

We’re writing to tell you of the very exciting things that are happening in the Life Skills class.

Life Skills is a small class of varying grades, abilities and disabilities. As you can imagine it is difficult to participate in regular education classroom sport and field trips. Also the dynamic of the class poses challenges and because of this, the students would benefit from specialized sport and field trips.

Every year The Life Skills team has made physical fitness a main priority; with the idea of “To move the brain we need to move the body first”.

The entire class has had the opportunity go swimming, Hiking in the Fall and Spring, and Skiing. We wish to continue these community learning trips for years to come. The goal is that students build the skills to be successful within our community so parents can enjoy these activities together and our hope is to see our kiddos out hiking, swimming or skiing throughout the year.

The Life Skills Team goal is to expose our children to movement and encourage physical play as an alternative to recreational media.

To have this physical fitness program be successful, not only does the class need to raise money for bus transportation and cost of programs but have needed gear to make each outing successful.

Teachers will have prepackaged backpacks with first aide kits, all students will have a backpack designated for swimming gear, hiking gearing or skiing gear. Every year we juggle with plastic bags that are used as backpacks. We want to have backpacks that can be used every time, every year.
