This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” Dr. Seuss. My students need more books in the class library to read in class or at home to help them learn,discover,and spark their imagination!

My class is composed of 25 students.

Out of those 25, 23 are English language learners and two English only speakers. They are active,inquisitive little people that question everything they see and hear. All my students qualify for free reduced lunch. Most of my students are first generation and struggle with academic vocabulary.

My Project

As the teacher, I know the importance of everyday reading,with enriched vocabulary literature. Unfortunately, most of my students don't have the financial status and or time to access engaging literature that is highly needed to develop their second language. Many of their parents work long hours and/or have two jobs to meet the household needs, hence leaving little opportunity to take their children to the public library. By providing the funds for this project, you would give my students the opportunity to not only engage themselves in reading during school,practice reading comprehension skills (i.e. sequence of events and summarizing) but also the chance to take books home and continue to refine their readings skills. In addition to having the child refine his/her reading skills, the family would also benefit, giving them the little time they have together to bond through the reading of these books. My class would greatly appreciate anything you donate and will put it to good use.

By donating to my project, you are giving these children the opportunity to expand their vocabulary in their second language, explore new worlds, and bond with their family through the reading of the wonderful books I chose.
