My Students

Every morning we greet each other in our morning circle. This lets our children know that we care about each and every one of them. They have a sense of belonging.

We are a title 1 school in Brooklyn.

My students are First Grade Special Education, English Language Learners and General Education students. They enjoy school and playing together. My school is very hands-on and interactive with the students. We believe in making well-rounded students who know education can come with every experience.

My Project

Reading is one of the most important parts of a great education. In order to make children want to read you have to have books that captivate them and that they enjoy. Our children read for fun, entertainment and for knowledge. We do morning reading to get us energized before we start our day, have quiet reading to help calm us down after lunch and we do Literacy Centers where children read with buddies and have book clubs. We also encourage children to read for 20 minutes a day at home, which helps instill the love of reading outside of school. My students need more books to help them to be engaged in reading, like Superman and Spider-Man, Lego Friends and Mo Willems books.

Our current classroom library is very small and does not have a good selection of books.

Our children get bored with the books and often have to read the same books over and over because of the lack of books. These books will bring more variety and spark an interest in reading everyday. These books will help make life-long readers.
