My Students

This is my sixth year teaching in a New York City school. I am a Special Education teacher in a third grade classroom.

I made it a priority as I started my career as a teacher that even though I may not be able to control their home lives, I know I can certainly control their experiences during the school day in a creative and positive way.

My students are creative, clever and very spontaneous. As a teacher in a Title I school, my students are faced with various situations both in and out of the classroom.

My Project

My third graders all have different personalities and learning styles. Each student is special in their own way. To ensure that everyone’s needs are being met, a lot of the instruction taking place in the classroom is differentiated.

In third grade, independence is important.

The goal is to get the students engaged and staying on task. We are always running out of pencils. It’s easy to get frustrated with students, forgetting their pencil or forgetting a concept I’ve recently taught them. But in the midst of the whirlwind, I can’t forget my students and them forgetting a pencil or losing it should not be a deal breaker. The seat cushions will be added to our flexible seating corner to support their active movement and keep students focused on their work without distracting themselves and those around them.

Your donations will support our different learning styles tremendously. My goal as a teacher is to make sure my students' needs are addressed and met. With your help, I can achieve that in my classroom.
