This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are part of a diverse culture in a PreK-4 school. Currently, our school represents more than 30 countries, with our refugee population growing from 18% to 34% in less than a year.

Some students have been in a school setting, while others are just experiencing a traditional American school setting for the very first time.

While some students come from rural area, others are from an urban setting with no prior experience with the life cycle of animals.

My Project

Teaching Lifecycles is a favorite unit in 2nd grade. However, we do not have the items needed to hatch chicken eggs. This project would fund our ability to hatch the eggs and give concrete examples students can touch of the changes an egg goes through to the adult stage of life, as well as the changes in a butterfly and a frog.

The process of watching a chicken egg go through a major lifecycle change will make a tremendous impact on the students at our school!

We will be able to give weekly reports on the process for the school and everyone will be able to visit the eggs during incubation, as well as the hatched chickens. Not only will it be it a learning experience for 2nd grade, it will impact the entire school population!
