My Students
My classroom is in a low-income school district. It is filled with twelve, fun loving, special education children. We are a diverse class with several different backgrounds and abilities. The disabilities are a wide range including developmental delay, intellectual disability, and autism. With the wide range of disabilities we have in our room, the extra help would go towards building creativity.
Opening up the minds of special needs children takes creativity and imagination.
The typical student in my class reads significantly below grade level and also struggles with number sense. This can be very discouraging and frustrating, so having fun, interactive learning activities, really helps to keep them engaged and excited about learning. My center-based classroom is where my students receive instruction in science, math, reading, and social skills, but without the requisite tools to teach my students, it is difficult to keep them engaged.
My Project
The materials feature a classroom-favorite themes life cycles. The kits come packed with props and manipulatives that give children a concrete sense of each concept and fun activities for the students to engage in.
The plant box includes a guide with tons of involving activities that cover ten curriculum areas, from math and reading to dramatic play.
I believe that this is especially awesome for my special education classroom because they really need concrete materials and do much better when lessons are supplemented with concrete materials. We have some of these themed boxes for different subjects and the students absolutely love them and would love even more!
