This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The Post Session program is an innovative exploratory learning experience where students in mixed grade classes earn art and PE credit through intensive, off-site learning.

In this post session, students get the amazing opportunity to go bikepacking along the California Coast.

The class is open to female-identifying and gender-non-conforming students and has three key learning objectives. Firstly, students will be tasked to understand the natural and ecological history of California and how humans have changed our environment over time. Then, they will find themselves in relation to current environmental awareness programs and resource preservation to understand climate change in their state and the effects of rising water temperatures, mud slides, and fires on our coast line. And finally, students will gain confidence in themselves and their health through gaining skills as a cyclist over the course of the trip.

During post-session in 2025, 16 of our students will spend one week training and exploring around the Bay Area. The next week, we will explore the coastal environment of the California coast during a five-day bike-packing trip. Traveling from Oakland to Santa Cruz and back will allow them to bike around 100 coastal miles and meet with environmental groups and rangers along the way.

These bike shorts and bike gloves will help our students persist through the long rides ahead!
