it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We are a Dual Immersion 2nd grade class getting ready for the diverse needs of our global society. We are a title 1 one school located in San Diego, California and 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our school serves TK-5th grade. Many of my students come from a single parent household. A majority of our students are second language and multi-cultural learners and come from low income / high poverty families.
Our Dual Immersion students are learning to become fluent in both Spanish and English.
Proficiency in more than one language is a valuable skill that will benefit our students and community. My students are faced with several challenges both inside and outside of school. I try and provide a safe environment for them to enjoy and look forward to coming to school.
My Project
My students are learning to be proficient in both Spanish and English in both reading and writing. I have two classes with 24 students in each class that share a classroom library. I do not have enough Spanish books at their reading levels. We have many 2nd grade students reading below grade level and I need to get books into their hands so that they can increase their fluency and comprehension skills.
I want to make each student feel successful and empowered when it comes to literacy.
I want each student to have an opportunity to work on their reading skills by having access to books at their own reading level and be ready for 3rd grade.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
