This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is hungry for books. These third graders are avid readers that can't stop reading and talking about their books. I teach a group of bilingual students that almost went through the entire fiction section of our classroom library, and every week I see them picking everything they can put their hands on.

My students interests include a variety of genres and topics ranging from animals and natural disasters to mystery and graphic novels.

Our classroom library needs to be replenished with updated high interest books in Spanish so I can provide my students with the high quality and engaging texts they deserve and that will support their academic development.

My Project

There is no better teacher of reading than a book that students just won’t put down. High quality and high interest books will allow my students to dream and expand their imagination. Thus, ultimately improving their academic performance at school.

I am a third grade Spanish bilingual teacher and I recently moved to a new community.

I have a group of avid readers who love reading many different types of books. Sadly, my classroom library has not been updated in a long time and the library is far from being the exciting corner full of high quality, high interest books that every 8 year old deserves. I need help to put more books in my classroom so I can satisfy my student’s appetite for reading. I am looking forward to providing my students with the books they are interested in reading such as mystery books, graphic novels, and literature of Latin America, and other best sellers that they see out there but in their native language. This project will directly support my students by providing them with titles they have been dying to read such as the mystery series Cuatro Amigos, El caso del cuadrado robado and Hombre perro.

The budget I received from my school is not sufficient, so I rely only on your generosity to fulfill this goal.
