Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This is the first year that our school has had a library for students to circulate books to develop their reading interests. Unfortunately, many of the standard allotments of library books for high school are almost exclusively in English which overlooks many of our bilingual students' needs.

We want to provide engaging, interesting, award-winning reading materials in the majority of our student's first language, Spanish (85%+), so that they can develop their reading interests and stamina while learning English.

Our students want to develop their reading skills, and this project focuses on their more dominant language as a means to promote literacy in all of its forms.

At this school, more than 50% of students are Black, Latino, and/or Native American, and more than 50% come from low-income households. Learn how your donation to this school supports a more equitable education.
