Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My high school students are from Redwood City, East Palo Alto and Menlo Park. My students represent populations from all of our local communities and all deserve access to a high quality public education. I have the pleasure of working with mostly 9th graders in both science and college prep courses.

My AVID students are all highly motivated to be the first in their families to attend college and are part of our school's AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program.

My students are kind, brilliant and hilarious young adults. Thank you for considering helping them get the resources they deserve!

My Project

AVID is a 4-year academic program for students from low-income communities, traditionally underserved ethnic groups, and individuals who will be the first in their families to attend college! We become a family over the four years together in this high school AVID program.

Help me transform a corner of my science lab classroom into a library/study space that feels warm, comfortable and safe.

My dream is to create a space where my AVID students can sit and read, do homework, work together in small groups, socialize, and tutor each other. My AVID students do not only spend our 7th period AVID class in our classroom, but also before school, passing periods, lunch, and after school! Our room does become a second home and I want it to feel that way, but it is especially challenging in a science lab where a lot of times the space can feel sterile and cold.
