Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are in a Title I school in a low income neighborhood. Many families are single parent households or limited English speaking. These factors limit the ability of families to help their students succeed and to meet students' educational needs.

My students come from homes that do not speak English and which are limited in the amount of resources they have to offer to their children.

They use the media center as a place of refuge in which they can acquire the knowledge they do not receive at home. The students many times go home to empty houses in which they are forced to take care of themselves and at times their siblings. The parents depend on free resources such as our library and media center to access computers, printers, online capabilities and just simple sources of information such as our books.

My Project

My students need a camera, printer, and toner cartridges. With these new resources, we can make sure that students' lives are enriched for the better. By having the printing capabilities, students who cannot afford paper, ink or printers can feel free to use the library's facilities to meet these needs. Students will be able to print projects for their classes as well as scan important documents for other projects. The camera will serve the archival needs of the students. We try to have many different activities in the school for these students and we can document these events for the year book and school bulletin boards. This will allow students to feel engaged and a part of their school community.

They do not have access to these materials outside of school. I am the media specialist and I want to provide them with these opportunities to learn about today's technologies and learn to use them in a way that is productive and meaningful to their education. Your support will make sure that these students are truly getting the most out of their school, education and, most importantly, their future.
