My Students

My students are super motivated and excited to explore and try new things. They want to explore beyond the classroom and find out all the different avenues available to them. This can be challenging for most of them based on their socioeconomic status and/or family status since my school qualifies for 100% free lunch.

However, they have not allowed their circumstances to stop them for wanting to explore the world around them through any avenue or extracurricular activity our school works to give them.

They are hardworking and eager to learn new things and truly excited when they are able to move beyond the classroom setting through field trips or other activities we have created for them.

My Project

Allowing student access and inspiring them to pursue areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) is at the forefront of what a makerspace can be within a classroom. The Arduino, which is a physical programmable circuit board, can not only allow students to learn and experiment with the basics of programming, but can also allow them to create their own projects using this technology.

Creative and hands-on learning experiences allow students to become engaged in their learning process and with the use of technology, such as Arduino, students can be exposed to different avenues to express their creativity while learning.

In learning about electrical currents, completing circuits, and basic programming students can use the arduino, the circuit wires, and LED lights to create projects with pattern lights and sounds. Students could use these components to make and program lighted objects such as a tree with lights.

This can open up students to future career possibilities and spark interest in STEAM related careers as well as engage their want of learning.
