This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am so thankful to work at ABES in southeast Washington, DC . This is my sixth year working with students that are in grades PreK 3/4, K-5th general education, special education, and students in the autism program. We are a Title 1/free lunch program that serves 500 students. Every year my goal is to make sure that my students develop a culture of reading. I do this by trying to help families with getting free books to develop their own at home libraries. My students read at school and in the library, but during the weekend or over long holidays it's important for them to continue to develop their love of reading, not just for school but for enjoyment as well.
My Project
Students being creative and having fun learning about new subjects and topics. Allowing students to learn something new can spark their interest for their future. Being able to read books can teach my students, however hands on experiences allows students minds to really explore.
This camera could spark my students interest in becoming a photographer or study film.
Student can broaden their minds when they have access to maker spaces. these ideas and activities help students explore things they may have never been expose too or would consider a career choice.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
