Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is an energetic, excited, and overwhelmingly enthusiastic group of Kindergartners. They love coming to school and interacting with their peers and teachers. They are a funny, dedicated, and inquisitive group of students who run into the classroom and don't want to leave.

My students are four and five year old students who need lessons and activities to keep them engaged in learning.

Our school is a new school with pre-kindergarten through second-grade students. Our school has a high population of English language learners, Special Education students, and students from various cultural backgrounds. Our students need a high level of support for them to learn at their best.

My Project

I would like to create a classroom library for parent involvement that is warm and inviting for my students. I am requesting a bookshelf and cuddly reading buddy so that they can have a space in the classroom to choose the books that they want to read and read them with their families. I plan on hosting literacy days in my classroom that can allow parents to come in and participate in literacy activities with their children. One area that I'd like to improve to make this possible is an attractive and engaging library area.

As a way to encourage their love of reading, I want to create an area where they can choose their books and comfortably read.

The library area that I envision for my classroom would be a place the kids choose to go to. High interest books, book buddies to read to and a shelf that displays the books!

Studies show that children who read or are read to for 20 minutes a day score higher on state tests and are more successful readers in their lifetime. That is why I would like to create an area in our room with high interest books, reading buddies (stuffed animals that the kids can read to) and an attractive bookshelf that makes them want to read. Please help me provide that for my young learners
