This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The PS5 console will provide a platform for students at our trauma-informed continuation school to engage in Esports, an activity that promotes teamwork, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills. Many of our students face significant challenges outside of school, and gaming can offer a much-needed sense of structure, focus, and accomplishment. By participating in tournaments and collaborative gameplay, they will learn to communicate effectively, develop leadership qualities, and manage emotions in high-pressure situations. Additionally, Esports introduces students to potential technology-related careers, offering opportunities to explore fields such as game design, marketing, and IT. The console will also serve as a tool to support mental health, providing a safe, stress-relieving outlet where students can connect with peers in a positive way.

The primary goal is to use Esports as a vehicle for building community and supporting mental health within our school.

As a trauma-informed continuation school, we aim to create a safe and inclusive space where students can connect, feel a sense of belonging, and learn important life skills. This project will help students develop resilience, social-emotional skills, and healthy coping mechanisms while also exposing them to career opportunities in technology and gaming. Ultimately, I hope to empower students to feel confident and supported as they navigate their educational and personal journeys.

Our students are extraordinary individuals who have faced significant adversity yet continue to show incredible resilience and determination. They bring diverse backgrounds, experiences, and talents that shape our school community. Many of them have struggled in traditional school settings but thrive in environments that prioritize emotional safety, creativity, and collaboration. Through the Esports club, they have an opportunity to shine, develop new skills, and connect with others in meaningful ways. Their strength, adaptability, and untapped potential make them truly special and deserving of every opportunity to succeed.
