My Project
We started an Esports team this year at our rural, coastal high school. And although I knew there might be interest, I had no idea how many students would see this as a chance to find a community, one that met them where they were. I learned quickly it was more than I thought and how many would want to be a part of this team. Traditional sports are the easy sell. Our community knows what these programs look like and how to cheer them on, but in the last decade, the world has changed. An esports competition between two League of Legends teams can fill massive stadium of fans. Professional teams spend massive amounts of money recounting players. And universities offer scholarships to high school players to join their teams and continue their education. My students deserve the same chance and support.
After a few weeks of organizing, planning, and discussing what it would mean to be a member this new team, we started one of the largest team sports at NBHS: Bulldog Gaming.
But we need equipment, and we are growing. As students realize they have a team, a community, that welcomes them where they are and encourages them to compete, and a chance t more and more are joining the team. So, just like how a football player needs a helmets, we need headsets; a basketball player needs a court, we need PCs...you get the picture.
The equipment below will serve two purposes. Firstly, it will allow students who don't have equipment to practice on or complete with, what they need. And second, it will like a basketball court brings a basketball team together, bring our players together, talking, planning, preparing, training, and competing.
