After 10 years of teaching kindergarten, this year I am teaching first grade at a new school! I have 21 students with a variety of skills, interests, and backgrounds, but who are all ready and eager to read and need quality texts to choose from. In order to be successful, my students need options across a variety of subjects and text levels so that they can feel empowered to select books that are just right for their individual ability and interests.
My Project
My students learned the foundations of reading in kindergarten and are ready to take off in first grade! These books will allow students to choose from a variety of topics within their current reading level and challenge them to continue growing! Providing students with a wide selection of texts that meet both their interests and their skill level will encourage students to read more and build upon their abilities. These are books that are not typically included in a first grade library, however I have students who are ready for a challenge and need books that can grow with them.
