Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm a pre-kindergarten bilingual teacher who teaches in a school located in a low-medium income area. Most of my students come from Hispanic and African American ethnic groups. I have 4 students with speech difficulties, one autistic student, and some students with behavioral issues. However, my students are sweet, caring, energetic, and highly creative. They have outstanding and extraordinarily strong personalities. There is always room for improvement, and this is precisely what I would like to do with them. I want to level my students academically to compensate for everything they have not learned during the 1 ½ year of the pandemic.

My 3-year-old students need engaging materials to work individually due to the distance rules.

After being in captivity, my students have an academic level of 2-year-old. They must be taught basic things: such as eating, sitting, talking, going to the bathroom alone. For this I need to equip my class with age-appropriate materials, which I don't have right now. The materials currently in my class are designed and enough when the students worked in groups of 6-7 students. They are not engaging for students to work independently and not enough for 30 individual students.

My Project

Some of the materials I would like to have for my class, I presently have but only a few pieces, what is left after 20 years of uninterrupted playing time. My classroom does not have full sets of anything; for this reason, students cannot accomplish making or building anything. I’m having a challenging time when a student wants to play with the same material other students are playing with, since there are not enough pieces to share.

The materials needed in my class will help my students to sit engaged in their places without having to stand up and take other student's materials.
