it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse group of learners from the South Bronx. The purpose of the Melrose School/PS 29X, as the cornerstone of a lifelong learning community, is to make all learners academically prepared, self-reliant, curious, thoughtful of others, respectful and capable of using their learning to succeed in life and be positive contributors to society and family. As a first grade teacher, I strive to work alongside teachers in creating a community of learners who are actively engaged readers, writers, and mathematicians.
My Project
As first graders, students are exposed to books as learning tools, perhaps for the very first time. These donations will allow students the opportunity to set a strong foundation as lifelong learners and readers.
Exposure to fiction and nonfiction literature on their "Just Right Reading Level" is imperative for student success as readers.
Students will fill their precious Book Baggies with these treasures. Multiple readings of these texts allow students to learn sight words, interact with pictures, increase fluency and expression, and ultimately - transition into readers.
At this time, my classroom library is in dire need of books. With 20 students requiring at least 10 books for their Book Baggie each week, it is crucial to keep the library stocked. Your generous donation will help to shape the lifelong learning experiences of the my learners.
