My Students

Many of my students do not know what is going on beyond our city, state, or country's borders. They do not know what challenges face teens worldwide. Please allow me to introduce my students to Malala. She stood up for the educational rights for Pakistani girls. She is proof that one voice matters.

Our school has many nationalities represented.

My students are high achieving, yet, from various different economic backgrounds. Our school is considered to be a school of need according to the number of students that qualify financially for free lunch programs. My students love to learn. They enjoy hands-on labs where they can create products or explain and explore why things occur.

My Project

My project is "kid-inspired" because my students decided we needed small appliances to create a farm to table kitchen in our classroom. We have tried cooking simple food, but is it very difficult without the proper appliances. With these appliances, students will be able make pizza with nutritious vegetable toppings and use the vegetables and herbs that we grow to add to delicious and nutritious healthy smoothies. Having a farm to table classroom kitchen, will encourage our students to make healthier food choices in school and then bring their knowledge home to help their parents make better food choices as a family. It will also help our students learn about how important it is to fuel your body with healthy foods to have a healthy mind and body. Using the blender and nutribullet I will have the students learn the importance of the vitamins and nutrients in wholesome fruits and vegetables by creating smoothies. Students will harvest the vegetables from our garden or the supermarket. Using the fan it will keep the room cool while we make veggie pizzas and other delicious recipes.

My students will be thrilled to have their own farm to table kitchen right in our classroom!

Since I am trying to teach my students about the importance of eating healthy, being able to cook healthy items in my classroom will motivate them to make better choices when it comes to food. I can't wait to see their excitement as they begin learning how to prepare and cook nutritious meals. We will document this farm to table journey on our iPads and invite parents and other classes to taste our delicious meals!
