My Students

My young students need nonfiction magazines so they can learn about their world and the fascinating science behind it. Our students are excited to learn, curious, innovative, playful, kind and fun! Our classroom is comprised of forty-eight 2nd and 3rd grade students at a charter school in southern California.

We are also a magnet school so students from many different backgrounds and cultures get to know each other.

We set high standards and enjoy the journey to reach them.

My Project

This year in social studies our students are "traveling" in cooperative groups to learn about different countries. Together they will choose their countries and research the people, the ecosystems, the inventions, the food, the customs, the language and each country's contributions to the world.

They will use books, magazines, the internet and Time For Kids Nearpod multimedia presentations to discover the uniqueness of each culture.

Next, they'll prepare oral presentations to share the information they've gleaned. Finally, their group's speeches will be videotaped and incorporated into an interactive map of the world. Time for Kids Nearpod will not only teach them about the various countries but will also get them more comfortable with technology so they are tech savvy and learning twenty-first century skills.
