Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school. I teach preschool students with mild to moderate disabilities. My preschool students are from ages 3-5 years. Most of my students need help in the area of speech and language. A typical day in my preschool classroom revolves around facilitating language. My students need assistance to use their language to communicate with each other. I encourage my students to communicate a lot throughout the day and most importantly during play time. I sit down with my students and model how to play appropriately and communicate with each other.

During the school year, I am working to prepare my students for a successful transition to kindergarten.

Speech and language development is a huge part of being able to communicate your wants and needs. I want my students to be able to communicate with their families, peers and teachers. I do my best to find new resources to help my students to improve their speech and language skills.

My Project

The puppet theater and puppets that I am requesting will be a great addition to our developmental play centers. The puppet theater and puppets will encourage my students to work on their language skills. During developmental play, my students will be able to choose a puppet of their choice and work together and develop conversation skills. They can bring these puppets to life by using their imagination and language through play.

By donating to this project, you will help my students to use their imagination and improve social interaction.

I currently have one puppet that is part of the preschool curriculum and my students enjoy interacting with it. I use the puppet to model language for my students and it always captures their interest. I have seen a huge improvement in my students' language when I use our classroom puppet. I hope that with the puppet theater and additional puppets, my students will continue to develop their language skills.
