My Project

Some kids love to talk and tell you stories. Some kids are much more shy and you need to really get to know them before they will open up. This is even harder for our young students who are still learning the English language. My students come from dual language homes, and are all at various stages of learning English.

By having materials such as puppets and play microphones, kids can begin to feel more comfortable talking when there's less pressure put on them.

My students also need more toys and games that are familiar, but encourage language. Squishy toys are very popular with this age group. While my students might think they are just "playing," I can also use them to work on academic and language skills such as building their vocabulary, working on classifying and sorting, and describing things. The textured mats, and various games can also help work on these skills as well.

Finally, my little learners need to move! By incorporating movement into our small groups, it can help us work on feelings and emotions, regulate our bodies, and help with anxiety. The calming strips, chair bands, and brain break activities can all help with these skills (as well as following directions!) as well.
