Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are full of potential and smiles. They may have disabilities including autism, cerebral palsy or emotional disorders but their motivation, love of learning, and participating in gym class does not let any physical or developmental limitation become a challenge for them. They are full of energy and are always trying their best regardless of what kind of day we are facing. For most of my students gym class is their only outlet to socialize, have some exposure, a sense of belonging and a way to stay active. One of the many activities we engage in is running, walking or rolling.
We currently participate in two different movement programs.
Everyday I hold my students to high standards because I know they are capable of many great things.
My Project
Gym is so much fun when music is incorporated. Having music in gym is motivational, music makes my students move. I would like to acquire a portable bluetooth mp3 music player. Having a portable bluetooth speaker would make it possible to incorporate music during gym in a different setting.
Due to lack of space our gym classes take place in different settings, such as gymnasium, cafeteria, hallways, classrooms, and playground.
Acquiring the portable bluetooth mp3 music player would benefit the students by making it possible to play music in these different settings. As my students engage in different activities, e.g. running laps, obstacle courses, game of bowling, etc. music helps them stay motivated and participate. As a result, students are able to attend and learn better during their school day and improving their overall physical development. When we perform a yoga session, playing soothing music sets the tone and keep my students with Autism calm and focus. In addition, I incorporate action songs as part of a warm up routine. The portable bluetooth mp3 music player would facilitate the students to listen and perform songs. Having a portable mp3 music player will promote participation, good health and learning for my students.
