My Project

Hi! My name is Ms. Gillen and I am a Social Studies teacher at a large, urban high school in Philadelphia. This year my 9th grade class will be learning about US History which is a new transition in the District's Social Studies curriculum. I am so excited about this new beginning and hope to start the school year off right!

With the new curriculum, I want to ensure the fact that my students are learning as much as they can in my US history class.

Many students are English Language Learners who might be learning about US history for the first time. I also want to include resources that my students can relate to and make connections with.

Many of my students do not have the financial means to come to the classroom equipped with the tools necessary to learn. The school supplies that will be purchased will be given directly to the students so that they can have the ability to take notes, etc. I want to make sure my students start their high school experience feeling confident and excited.
