Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Over 85% of my students are English Learners from Hispanic/Latino background. Nearly 80% of my students are from households with at least one adult who does not speak English and/or is functionally illiterate and never attended school. Many of my students are first generation Americans from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. However, ALL of my students and families are committed to contributing to society and achieving the American dream.

My students live in a Food Desert and often lack nutritious snacks and meals.

Ensuring hunger is not an obstacle in the learning process is an obstacle that should be and can be easily removed.

My Project

I would love to implement a Food Sharing program at my school.

We need a refrigerator in order to meet health code guidelines for storing food.

My students live in an area defined as a Food Desert and have limited access to nutritious and healthy foods. My school provides USDA approved nutritious and healthy breakfast and lunch for our students. Unfortunately, nearly 40% of the food is not eaten and thrown away.

However, If we have a refrigerator, we could share the extra food with other students who may still be hungry. We could also, donate any extra food at the end of the day to families, shelters or other nonprofit organizations.

Celebrate Black teachers and kids! This project supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of students are Black.

Equity Focus

At this school, more than 50% of students are Black, Latino, and/or Native American, and more than 50% come from low-income households. Learn how your donation to this school supports a more equitable education.
