My Project

I created a reading corner for my special education grades 3-5 classroom and discovered a need for some seating, books, and lighting as great additions. The students absolutely love the Book area and race over to it every moment they can. Having designated areas in the classroom with different "feels" to them helps with motivation and offers movement breaks while working on activities. I can offer direct instruction at the table, then we can split up and use clipboards or laptop desks and complete comprehension assessments or phonics activities, then come back to the table to conclude our lessons. I try to make the reading corner colorful and inviting to the students and encourage a love of reading because all the students I see have grave difficulties with reading; therefore, they have not experienced the same love of reading some of their peers have.
