Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a second grade teacher and am honored to be looping up from first with the same class. My students are my super heroes. Although many live in low income homes and often have trouble gathering supplies for school, they love to learn. They look forward to each school day and are extremely motivated. These students motivate me and I just want them to get the best.

Our school is a Title I urban school in NYC.

Over 80% of the students in our school qualify for free or reduced lunches. I love my class and I would love to make any improvements possible to make their school experience memorable. Working in New York, the budget just keeps getting tighter. It is very difficult to obtain many of the supplies and furniture needed to make the classroom run smoothly. My students just love coming to school each day, but I would love to improve the classroom environment.

My Project

These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy.I read on the carpet to them, they complete work there, and they read independently! Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in min. I have watched them the past few weeks of school read titles just like these, and I have also asked them what type of books they would enjoy reading. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.

With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.

They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
