I am a 2nd-year teacher teaching second grade! I am so fortunate to teach a class of 27 little second graders who love to learn! Every child has incredible talents and strengths. They love to grow and discover new ideas. They are fascinated by the world around them!
They thrive when we make learning meaningful and fun!
The students in my class strive to be the best learners they can be. They care about one another and look out for each other. It is fun to watch them learn and grow while learning about things that are completely new to them.
The pandemic has brought a lot of different outcomes, but the worst by far is the fact that so many students dipped well below grade level in reading. With being a new teacher, I don't have many decodable books in my classroom library for my students to choose from or to use for interventions. With the resources that I am requesting, I will be able to build a library of resources to use with my students to help bring them up to grade level. These books will help my students become great readers!
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place where my students really enjoy reading. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. Students will be able to choose books, that will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level and build confidence in their reading skills.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. These decodable books will also help with students in a small group setting and with struggling readers during interventions. This project will help bridge the gap that Covid has created and bring my students up to their grade level.
