My Students

My students are curious learners and emerging young adults with special education needs. They are dominantly English Language Learners and from low SES households. They all have active Special Education IEPs with a wide range of disabilities, such as Intellectual Disability, Autism, and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. The majority of my students do not know how to read. I provide speech and language services to them. During this past year in distance learning, they have seen and heard so much about what is happening around the world and our country, including social justice and health reform. Due to Covid-19, they have been in distance learning for a year now and now in hybrid learning.

My students are dominantly Latino and/or Hispanic and English Language Learners.

Despite their speech and language impediments, they are strong, resilient, and come to speech therapy with enthusiasm.

My Project

The projector will allow my students to engage with my digital materials in person safely. We have been in distance learning for over a year now and currently in hybrid, where some students are in person at school and some working from home remotely. With the projector, I can utilize my digital creative materials, including PowerPoints, Boom Cards, and fun story books/videos from a safe distance with my in-person students. This will be a source of acclimation for my students who are in person for the first time since schools closed a year ago. With the bag, I can pack the projector and use the projector at the five different schools I currently provide speech and language therapy to.

The voice amplifier will help my students hear me safely from a distance during hybrid learning.

Since we cannot gather together closely in a small kidney table, we have to be 6 feet apart. Several of my students have auditory processing difficulties or hearing problems. With the amplifier, I can project my voice so my students can hear me while engaging in fun activities to help them meet their speech and language goals. I can also use this voice amplifier to help my students who are still at home, hear me during online therapy.
