Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students and our neighborhood is both culturally and financially diverse. We are located in a rural area surrounded by farm land and local nurseries where many of our parents work to make a living. Our student population is made up of students from all over the world. The ethnicities range from Hispanic, Asian-American, and African American. Most importantly, though, my students are humble, selfless, and kind. They give, even when they do not have much to give. They make me want to do everything in my power to give back to them.

We are in a Title I school where over 93% of the students come from low-income households.

Regardless of this statistic, I know that my students have great capabilities and potential. They are motivated and driven to learn even at their young age because they want to overcome the obstacles they face in their everyday life. For this same reason, I am determined to give them the learning environment that they deserve to learn in: one that is nurturing, welcoming, and stocked with the tools needed to build their future.

My Project

Teaching in a pandemic last year brought on many unprecedented adversities. Teachers learned to adapt, change, and be "flexible" through the constantly changing times. However, if there is one positive thing that has come out from teaching during these times of COVID, it is that students have been provided with individual learning devices.

Sharing devices is a thing of the past!

Each student in my class now has their own laptop where they are able to conduct research, watch educational videos, play learning games, and so much more on a daily basis! Unfortunately, our schools were not built with over 15 wall outlets to sustain this new technological boom!

That being said, these carts will help me ensure all of my students devices are charged properly each day so that they are not held back simply due to a dead battery. Help us POWER UP our learning by powering up our devices!
