My Students

For many of my students, kindergarten is their first experience in a school setting. Due to safety protocols, they will be spending a large portion of their day inside one classroom in an assigned space that is six feet away from other students.

This year school will look and feel very different, but my students deserve to have a safe and comfortable learning space that has engaging and fun materials.

Kindergartners are eager, full of energy, funny, and kind - and I love working with them every day. My students attend an incredible elementary school in Virginia where we value making connections and putting the needs of students first.

My Project

The students in my class will all be attending school four days a week, but will be in two different classrooms to allow room for social distancing. In order to provide a safe environment for students, it is important for students to have their own individual supplies and toys instead of sharing as we normally would, and any toys we use must be able to be easily cleaned and disinfected. Many of the toys we currently have have parts made of cloth and felt and will be put in storage.

Play and hands-on learning are incredibly important for young students.

Through play, students are building fine motor, problem solving, and language skills. Plastic figurines and animals can be used alongside sets of blocks and other building materials to extend creative learning. Permanent markers can be used to label containers and to add letters or numbers to building pieces for more academic learning opportunities. Magnetic building blocks are a favorite toy in our classroom and having more sets will allow more individual students to use them in a day.
