My Students

How would you feel if you required deep pressure, but the only way to satisfy this need was to bite or hit yourself or others? How would you feel if you knew there was something that could help?

My students are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and are between the ages of 11 and 21 years.

Some of my students are considered hypo-sensitive, meaning they require deep pressure to help orient and organize their bodies as well as focus. In the absence of deep pressure, weighted vests, animals or lap landers my students self-bite/hit.

My Project

I am requesting one lap lander, which was specifically designed to aid in organizing the arousal levels for learning through weights and sensory input. I am also requesting various weighted animals that sit on shoulders- a self-regulating tool for providing proprioceptive input and deep pressure touch. Input from lap landers and weighted animals can be highly effective in helping to calm and focus students' nervous systems and therefore, help them learn.

This project is so important to me because I believe that my students deserve materials that can improve their quality of life.

A lap lander or weighted animal might seem like a simple item, and it is, but for my students it makes all the difference! Help me help my students!
