My Students

I am teaching a unit on measurement. My young scientists need more tools to learn about measuring.

I work with 230 pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade students.

I teach science in a school in Brooklyn with a 59% poverty rate. My students are full of questions, love to experiment, observe, and learn more about the world through science.

My Project

Measuring is one of the key skills that young people need in everyday life. It is also an important piece of the early childhood science curriculum. I need more materials to make my science classroom come to life. I want my students to use their senses to explore and observe materials and to learn to use different tools that can aid them in their observations. I also like to work using centers where students work in groups to explore and learn together.

Having science center materials for hands on scientific inquiry is important in order to teach children how to observe, interpret, and analyze data.

Having materials for different centers will also help me to foster independent work and collaboration in group work. These are essential skills that I want my students to develop in my class.
