Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach first grade in a large, urban school district.

My class is filled with very energetic 6 and 7 year olds!

Our classroom consists of students of varied academic levels. More than half of my students are from low‑income households. All receive free lunch. Their home lives are just as varied as they are.

Despite their differences, they all have one thing in common. They are each very special children. They each bring their special uniqueness to my classroom. Our classroom is a very busy and exciting place!

My Project

My students were highly impacted by the loss of school time during the pandemic. Trying to teach virtually made it harder for my students to understand the math standards presented. Now that we have returned to a hybrid learning environment, my students need a more "hands on " approach to learning.

My students need a concrete, visual way to grasp new math skills.

These math tools will help me demonstrate expected outcomes for addition and subtraction, as well as, geometry. The games will give my students a fun way to show what they have learned.
