Let's Make Them Forget They're Learning!

My students need Chromebooks to access academic content through technology. My students struggle with learning through traditional methods and they love using technology as a means to learn.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm an educator in a Title I school in the Bronx. Our school is comprised of many students that are first and second generation immigrants as well as students with disabilities. While we have students that come from very hard-working and decent families, we also educate a population of students that come from homes stricken by poverty and dysfunction. I educate students with disabilities whose disabilities are often compounded by their living situation. My students' disabilities vary from Autism to Emotionally Disturbed, but these are just labels. I want my students to defy every label that has been assigned and/or implied because of their circumstances.

My students inspire me to be better every day because they are amazing and are deserving of my absolute best!

They are curious, motivated to learn, and hard workers despite the hardships that they face. They educate me as much I do them! My goal is to have my students recognize that they should never limit their potential and their future does not need to be determined by their circumstances.

My Project

Technology in the classroom is essential nowadays. My students may not be able to read on grade level; however, they are tech savvy. With additional Chromebooks in the classroom, ALL of my students will have access to technology at the same time. With these Chromebooks, my students will be able to work on leveled reading text, practice and engage in math content, complete research projects, and watch videos or teacher created slides for reinforcement of concepts taught. The possibilities are endless.

My goal is to make them forget that they're learning!

When students work on technology they are engaged and more confident in their work. My students struggle with reading and are often hesitant to grab a book, but when they're given the option to read on a tablet or laptop their interest level is piqued. When given the option to type an essay, they run to the computers in their excitement. Engagement is key for my students to be able to access our 4th grade content. The Chromebooks would allow me to engage ALL of my students in our units of study at the same time.
