Let's Make Some Noise this Lunar New Year

Help me give my students instruments to make loud noises that will scare away "Nian" the half-lion, half-dragon monster who comes out of hiding during the Lunar New Year.

My Project

I have the privilege of teaching a wonderfully diverse group of four- and five-year-olds at a neighborhood school. At such a young age, everything is new and exciting. It is a great time to teach students about a wealth of culture and traditions.

Every year our TK students take part in a Lunar New Year parade throughout the campus using instrument.

We make decorations, wear zodiac headbands, and play instrument to make as much noise as possible. The students love learning about the traditions of Lunar New Year. They are especially interested in Nian and making sure that we scare him away.

This year I would like to improve this experience by making sure that all of our students have an instrument to play during the parade. I am requesting drums and drum sets to elevate this learning opportunity. I have chosen drums because of they are easy for children to hold, play, and they are of high interest level for this age group.
