My Students

My students are vibrant, full of life and crave new and fun resources every day! Almost all of them come from very low income homes in East Harlem where they do not have access to books and other things necessary for educational success. Often, their families cannot afford to give them what they need and desire. I love my students and they are my inspiration. They deserve the world and I know with your help, we can give them that!

My Project

These books will give my students the gift of reading! They already love to read, but unfortunately our classroom library is filled with decades-old, tattered books that are falling apart. My students don't come from much, and the least they deserve is a new classroom library filled with brand new books that are geared towards their interest! My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy-I read on the carpet to them, they complete work there, and they read independently! . All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind-I have watched them the past few weeks of school read titles just like these, and I have also asked them what type of books they would enjoy reading. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.

With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level!

They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
