My Students

Do you have memories of listening to books on tape? For me, the "tape" center was always the most fun!

My students are amazing.

They are curious about our world and LOVE reading! All of my students receive free lunch and eighty percent are English Language Learners. Despite hardships that are out of their own control (poverty, violence, drug/alcohol abuse), they come to school like any 1st grader should - excited.

My Project

I'm asking for MP3 players so that my students can access some of the technology that our Language Arts program offers and so that they can listen to stories. All of our Language Arts program's Decodable Readers, Practice Readers, and Anthology selections are available on MP3. Using the MP3 players would give the students more exposure and access to these grade level materials. My students would also have access to audio libraries of a variety of literature. I could even record myself reading a story and my students could listen to it! Even better, a student could record him/herself and listen to how he/she sounds when reading.

Listening to stories provides many opportunities for students.

Students can think critically about the content, make connections, be exposed to books at (or above) their reading level, be introduced to new genres, listen to a read-aloud model, and simply have fun listening to someone else enjoy reading a book.
