Let's Light Up The Darkness!

Help me give my students black lights for in-class fun and concert awesomeness! This is one thing I've always wanted to do with them, but could never afford to purchase the lights.

My Students

I teach in rural Nevada. The school I am at provides a 100% free breakfast/lunch program. A large portion of my school is Hispanic, with many students being second language learners. My school is K-5. We have over 500 students attending our school. I have had the privilege of teaching music to them for 13 years now, after spending 16 years in the regular education program.

After a year of teaching music from a cart in the students' classrooms, surrounded by desks and chairs, with little opportunity to move, I am looking forward to next school year and being back in my classroom.

My Project

As an elementary music teacher, I strive to create opportunities for my students to be creative and innovative with their musical experiences. Being able to provide black lights to be used in class and for concerts will excite the students and enable them to perform in spontaneous, improvisational, and creative ways.

These are a few standards for which this project would apply:

MU:Pr4.4.5 ~ Demonstrate and explain how intent is conveyed through interpretive decisions and expressive qualities.

MU:Pr6.4.1 ~ Perform music, alone or with others, with expression and technical accuracy, and appropriate interpretation.

MU:CR1.5.1 ~ Improvise rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic ideas, and explain connection to specific purpose and context (such as social, cultural, and hisotrical)

MU:Cr3.5.2 ~ Present the final version of personal created music to others that demonstrates craftsmanship, and explain connection to expressive intent.
