Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

One of our school's main goal is to foster relationships among our independent, creative, and connected students. I co-teach over 150 New York City students, most of whom are incoming 9th graders, entering high school for the first time. These students are curious, excited for this new stage in their lives, and also nervous to meet new people and make strong friendships.

Over half of my students have Individualized Education Plans, meaning they have a wide-range of special needs which require additional support.

These students, as well as all teenagers, benefit from the academic and personal relationships they build in the classroom.

As we begin this new school year, even under unprecedented conditions, I am excited to meet and work with my new students both in-person and online.

My Project

As we embark on the 2020-2021 school year, we begin a school year like no one has ever experienced before. I teach over 150 students, most of whom are 9th graders new to high school and many of whom have special needs. These students are not only starting a new chapter in their education, but most of them are doing this from their own homes. Using the ASUS Chromebook Flip for my students and classroom will provide me with a reliable tool from which to deliver lessons and build relationships among my students in our unprecedented classroom community.

At this time, almost all of my school's laptops, tablets and other devices were given to students last spring to use for distance learning.

It is unlikely that I will have laptops for my students to use in the physical classroom or even a teacher device from which to teach.

Building trusting relationships among me and all of my students is crucial for a successful year. The ASUS Chromebook Flip will allow me to meet my students and see them during our virtual lessons. It will allow me to reach out to them and their families throughout the school year. It will support me in fostering new friendships and academic relationships among my many students that proves so important to their overall development as students as well as individuals.
