Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of my students have been diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and this is their first time in school. Apart from having this disability, many come from low income homes in which they lack things a child with no disabilities would need. Therefore, these children are in extra need of some fun things that typical children may have plenty of in their homes.

These children are first timers in school and are just learning to grab pencils and draw shapes.

Although most of these children have been attending different types of therapies since they were young babies, they have not been exposed to a school setting and they are now just learning how to do basic things that a typical child their age would have already mastered.

We currently have one etch a sketch that has been helping the students learn how to grab onto a pencil and has been teaching them how to write and draw in a more fun and creative way. If we were to get more of these, the students could get more practice with writing on a daily basis and can develop their fine motor skills more. This would also go for the coloring mats and all the drawing materials.

On a daily basis we are teaching the children letters and how to write them. They do not enjoy typical ways of writing so we are incorporating art to do these things.
