My Students

My target students are in the seventh and eighth grades at a Title I school in the Delta, with a very high population of students who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. They are incredibly bright and eager to learn. They love working on inquiry-driven projects that require them to work together and apply 21st-century skills.

This project will allow students from varied economic backgrounds to work collaboratively with their teachers to prepare them for the workforce they will enter.

My Project

My students need this LEGO Education Spike Robot kit to learn about building, programming and coding an robot.

They will use the kit as part of the First LEGO League Challenge Competition, where they will build a robot that they will program to perform multiple autonomous challenges on a designated challenge table.

Students will compete against other students from other schools around the world.

This is an incredible opportunity for my students to challenge and stretch themselves to learn and grow beyond what they know in a "real world" academic based competition.

We will also be researching career in coding and computer programming. Students will see that there are many opportunities for them to be financially supported by applying their hands on learning. We will discuss what it means to be financially secure by discussing concepts like opportunity cost, credit, saving, other economic ideas.
